Walking and Talking Therapy
Walking and Talking therapy takes therapy outside of the therapy room.
Many of the young people I meet find it really difficult to sit in a therapy room and talk about how they are feeling and what is happening in their lives.
It can be a lot easier for some people to engage in therapy if we are moving and if we are side by side, without papers or tablets between us.
Walking and talking has the added benefits of:
being active- walking on it’s own can be good for our mental health.
creating opportunities to engage with nature- studies have shown that being in the natural world benefits our mental health.
being outside- it is helpful for our body’s sleep/ wake cycles to be outside and exposed to sunlight.
If you are interested in walking and talking therapy we can discuss if this is right for your circumstances.
We will consider how we manage confidentiality and safety.
Walking and talking therapy is only available 1:1 for children over 12 years old and is dependent on risk assessment.
Walking and talking therapy for younger children can be considered if parents are also involved in the session.
